Presence Film

The acclaimed director pushes his film-making abilities through this clever supernatural story captured wholly from the viewpoint of the phantom. After a clan featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe moves into their fresh home, the lens – AKA the Presence – follows them around. Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy

Cage fully commits to his cult stardom through this autobiographical spoof. He plays an egotistical film star playing himself who accepts a $1m payday to attend a festive event in Mallorca for the rich Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Contacted by the intelligence agency to investigate the suspected cartel boss, Cage's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, on Channel 4

The Black Phone

Scott Derrickson's contained scarefest stands strong even without a sequel. Located in 1970s Colorado, a series of disappearances has left the youth anxious. Once Finney is taken by the villain and locked up in a basement, he dreads a fatal end. Yet the non-functional line in the room keeps ringing, with eerie communicators providing assistance, while the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. This Saturday, nighttime, Film4

The Tammy Faye Biopic

In the battle between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for greed in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic of the disgraced TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield acts as the venal Jim, who proclaims early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. Both individuals set about monetising the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, overdone appearance and bad faith, yet Chastain manages to depict Tammy Faye with compassion. Next Tuesday, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
